In Conjunction with the Tidy Towns committee I was commissioned to re-design the entrance roundabout to the village of Skerries, North County Dublin. The theme for the roundabout was based on a coastal concept seeing that Skerries itself is so connected with the sea and maritime activity. The layout is based around the meandering beds of beach pebble with Beach rock-stack sculptures in the middle. The beds are bordered with an edging brick which form the meandering curves.
The planting is all selected for its exposure to the coastal conditions. Specimens of Pinus mugo mughus are placed in each planting bed with a border of ornamental grasses (festuca glauca/ophiopogon japonicus) following the curves of the beds. A mix of taller grasses, Cotton lavender (Santolina pinata) and Agapanthus add extra colour and visual interest in the middle of each bed.
The roundabout was constructed over a couple of days in August 2012 and was highly regarded by locals and passers by alike. It is still a talking point and focal point at the entrance of Skerries Village.
