Malahide – Terraced Walled Garden
Set in an exclusive housing estate in Malahide, this large garden began in 2015 as a blank canvas. A transformative garden design carried out over two years is now complete.
New terraced Donegal Sandstone walls create spacious planting beds dividing the 1.5m level difference in the existing garden into two main garden levels. The upper garden is accessed by two sets of granite steps at either end. Sleek Granite patios with sawn granite setts form generous seating areas around the house, looking out and up to the various planted borders, raised planters and a bespoke water-blade water feature which falls into a large pool on the mid level of the garden.
The Planting for the garden design was carefully considered. Firstly, a mix of tree specimens were selected for the garden, some for screening, more for their unusual foliage or autumn colour and form the main structure in the planting beds. A mix of herbaceous planting with specimen shrubs and clipped box balls give a beautiful variety of form, texture and colour in the garden.
